What is the moral obligation of the United States and our allies in light of the genocide of Bashar al-Assad?

In Syria, the sheer physical and human devastation undermines the prospects of a viable state for years to come. The stats are almost incomprehensible: more than half the population depends on humanitarian aid to make it through the day.

Some three million kids are not attending school—in a population of twenty-two million. Besides a staggering death toll, one and a half million people have been injured or permanently disabled. Life expectancy is down fifteen years from when the civil war started, in 2011.

Almost one out of five citizens has fled the country altogether. They may have little incentive to return. Physical destruction totals at least two hundred and fifty billion dollars, in a state the size of Washington. And it increases every day.

What is the moral obligation of the United States and our allies in light of the genocide of Bashar al-Assad? Will bombing a few of his planes get him to stop the murders and devastation?

Really, what should we do?

Charles Krauthammer nails it. We have an obligation to prevent people with evil intentions from coming into our country. There is evil in the world. We must confront it.

The Islamic State has said they are out to kill us and will use refuges to do so. Should we not believe them?

Wisdom is needed. Let us pray to God to provide it to our leaders.

The Syrian-refugee debate has become a national embarrassment. It begins with a president, desperate to deflect attention from the collapse of his foreign policy, retreating to his one safe zone — ad hominem attacks on critics, this time for lack of compassion toward Syrian widows and orphans.

This, without a glimmer of acknowledgment of his own responsibility for these unfortunate souls becoming widowed and orphaned, displaced and homeless, in the first place. A quarter-million deaths ago, when Bashar al-Assad began making war on his own people, he unleashed his air force and helicopters. They dropped high explosives, nail-filled barrel bombs, and even chemical weapons on helpless civilians. President Obama lifted not a finger.

In the earliest days, we could have stopped the slaughter: cratered Assad’s airfields, taken out his planes, grounded his helicopters, and created a nationwide no-fly zone. (We successfully maintained one over Kurdistan for twelve years between 1991 and 2003.)

Why are so many Syrian refuges men?

Why are the refuges mainly men? There are probably lots of good reasons. Of course, it is dangerous and difficult. Families can come later.

And, there are some security concerns which need to be considered as well. This is all difficult.

The problem is in Syria and Bashar al-Assad. 300,000 murdered now and millions of refuges. Russia and Iran want to keep him in power. Why?

May God grant us all wisdom to know what to do.

“Of 102,753 registered arrivals through Italy and Greece, the International Organization of Migration found that 68,085 were men, with only 13,888 women and 20,780 children. At both the Hungary-Croatia border and the Serbia-Croatia border, I saw a noticeable majority of men, though it was nearly impossible to take a photograph without capturing at least one woman or child in the background.

“They tell us, ‘We do this dangerous trip on our own, we get asylum, and there is a law in the European Union that the family can come,’” says Christof Zellenberg, the chairman of the Europa Institute, who has been heavily involved in volunteer efforts in Vienna. You see few newcomers over 50, he adds, because “this is a grueling trip, and you need to be young and strong.”

Syrian crisis: The shocking truth about Obama’s volunteer Syrian army

Major General Lloyd Austin

How many Syrian volunteer soldiers have we trained so far? Four or five.

That is the number of US-trained Syrian “moderate” soldiers who are currently in the field against the Islamic State forces.

Not four or five divisions.  Not four or five brigades. Not even four for five hundred troops.Four or five guys.

So far, the U.S. has spent $42 million on the training and deployment of the Obama Brigade. At the Obama Brigade’s current level of manpower, that comes to between eight and ten million dollars a soldier. Not much bang for the buck.

Now Russia is establishing a base of operations in Syria. Allegedly to fight ISIS. Actually to shore up the brutal regime of Bashar al-Assad.

Does Europe have a duty to defend its Culture?

Refuges in Europe

Our collective, that is the western worlds approach, to the Radical Islamist Jihad has been a mammoth failure. The mass migration to Europe is one of way many consequences. We need to all wake up.

Russia is now moving into Syria to continue to prop up the Syrian genocide of its own people. ISIS is serious and even worse than Bashar al-Assad.

In a 2006 Los Angeles Times column critical of the Left’s attitude towards Islamic radicalism, New Atheist Sam Harris wrote:

:… the failure of liberalism is evident in Western Europe, where the dogma of multiculturalism has left a secular Europe very slow to address the looming problem of religious extremism among its immigrants. The people who speak most sensibly about the threat that Islam poses to Europe are actually fascists. To say that this does not bode well for liberalism is an understatement: It does not bode well for the future of civilization.

Most refugees, no doubt, seek a better life. No doubt that life is hell in Syria and it ain’t too great in a Cypriot refugee camp, either. Maybe some welcome signs and a generous welfare program will mollify centuries of history and all of this will work out. It seems far more likely that some kind of anarchy will do one thing, though: import some of the instability of the Middle East to Europe.

Many Eastern European nations have offered special accommodations to Christian refugees. And they deserve special consideration. Through war and persecution, the dramatic depopulation of Christians has been one of great tragedies of the past decades. They have nowhere else to go. That is not the case for Muslims—both Sunni and Shia—who have allies across the region who could, but refuse, to take them.

Is Russia trying to set up base in Syria?

This could prove to be very, very dangerous. Friends with Iran and the brutal regime in Syria. The Russian military appears to be attempting to set up a forward operating base in western Syria, the U.S. government says, deepening concerns about Moscow’s intentions in the war-torn nation.

Why would we negotiate with Iran that supports the brutality of Bashar al-Assad? It defies logic.

“We have seen indication in recent days that Russia has moved people and things into the area around Latakia, and the airbase there,” Pentagon spokesman Capt.  Jeff Davis said Monday.Latakia, a port city on Syria’s Mediterranean coast, is in an area controlled by the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a close Russian ally.

In a civil war, do you leave your country or stay and fight for liberty?

Syria

Syria

We know a lot about liberty in our country. We also know about civil wars. When we could no longer tolerate what Britain was doing to us, we fought for our liberty. We also had a civil war. We fought to a conclusion.  We did not flee to Mexico or Canada. We fought. We had many casualties both times. But we fought. In the civil war, 620,000 Americans died on both sides.

So … what is going on in Syria. It is horrific to see what is going on there. The atrocities committed by Bashar al-Assad are astounding. Iran is supporting him. Russia is supporting him.

Then we have the cruel work of ISIS who has established a Caliphate. They, of course, are fighting.

What is equally sad is to see people fleeing and not fighting. Nothing will be gained that way. Much will be lost. And so Europe is struggling to accept those who are fleeing. America is under pressure as well. All very sad.

We know that freedom is not free. It comes with great sacrifice. Who will stand up to both President Assad and ISIS? Standing up to butchers is suicidal at a certain level. But what if 2 million stayed and fought? What would the outcome for liberty be?

We may never know.

May God give us all wisdom. May peace come to the Syrian people.
