There are times I have underestimated how important the Holy Spirit can be in our lives. God knows we need the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I can be clueless.

Jesus uses a great analogy of our own roles as parents to help us understand. God is the perfect Father. God really, really wants us to have the Holy Spirit. God also wants us to ask.

  • Does God measure out the Spirit cupful by cupful?
  • Does God immerse us in the Spirit?
  • Does God drench us with the Spirit?
  • Does God fill us with the Spirit?

We do not have any clue how much of the Holy Spirit God will give us. It is without measure.

  • Luke 11:13 (ESV) — 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
  • John 3:34 (ESV) — 34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.
  • On the day of Pentecost, after the disciples we’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, the apostle Peter quoting the prophet Joel proclaimed “in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
