Denver officials are working to make the temporary, managed campsites that popped up around the city during the pandemic a permanent tool for addressing the homelessness crisis.
The mechanism: a proposed amendment to the city’s zoning code that would bring the campsites, sanctioned overnight parking areas and tiny home villages under the umbrella of a new land use designation known as temporary managed communities.
Jesus wants us to do everything we can to help the poor and those who do not have a place to live. We are to care for the hungry and feed them. We are to care for the thirsty and give them something to drink. We are to care for strangers and invite them into our home. We are to care for the naked and give them clothing. We are to care for the sick. We are to care for those in prison and visit them. These are the clear expectations of Jesus (Matthew 25:34-40).

Nice to “see” you Michael on the video! I’ve been thinking about doing posts like that as well, I just don’t like seeing myself on camera. Anyway I have mixed feelings about this because in California we have tent cities everywhere and they seem to be making the homeless problem worse. City officials use them as a way of pretending they’ve found a solution but are really washing their hands of the problem and leaving the tent residents to continue leading whatever deviant lifestyles got them homeless to begin with.
I certainly agree Jesus wants us to help the less fortunate. But how to do it effectively is the gist of it.

I live in Colorado (used to live in Cali). There are many homeless here that are just drug addicts. That’s the main issue. Serious drug addiction and living outside because a lot of the year is beautiful out. Our libraries also keep closing because the homeless go in the bathrooms to do meth. I don’t know how meth works, but apparently it spreads through the ventilation and they have to close up until it gets cleaned out. Yes, help the destitute. But no, don’t enable them. This post leaves out a lot, IMHO.

I am sure it does leave out a lot. I used to spend a lot of time in Denver. I had a client there. It has changed a lot. I do not think government is the answer. I know Jesus is.
Blessings.

Jesus is absolutely the answer 😊 Our government has had very well meaning policies that have made things worse. Such as letting people camp in certain parks. Which sounds very loving but it ended up with the park full of needles and human waste and tons of money spent to fix it. I hope I didn’t come across as criticizing your post, we’ve just been dealing this for a while now and it’s scary.

Not critical at all. Government wants to be a god but fails everytime.

Thanks Tricia. I do not like how I look or sound but I decided to get over it.
The homeless situation, particularly in California, is in a freefall. Coronado made some progress but that is probably unique.
Jesus wants us to help but He seems to address that to indivduals and not the government. That is my take.
Blessings.

Coronado has a great Mayor! The city also just doesn’t tolerate sleeping”rough” there and all the activity that comes with it. We share a similar take on this.

I really liked what he had to say. If you want help, the will give it to you. If you want to defecate in public, we will arrest you.

BTW – I would highly encourage you to do some video. Many people get their content exclusively that way these days. I am sure you would do great.
